Mohammad Javed Ali is an Ophthalmic Plastics Surgeon, Dacryologist, and Clinician-scientist. He heads the Govindram Seksaria Institute of Dacryology, L. V. Prasad Eye Institute, Hyderabad and specializes in the science of tear ducts.[1] Prof. Ali is also the Alumni chair of Ophthalmology at the L.V. Prasad Eye Institute and the current Editor-in-Chief of Seminars in Ophthalmology, Associate Editor of several major journals, including The Ocular Surface, Ophthalmic Research, Survey of Ophthalmology, and Current Eye Research. He holds several international professorships, including the Hong-Leong Professor at University of Singapore, Professor of Anatomy and Ophthalmology at the Friedrich Alexander University, Nuremberg, Germany, Professor, Wojskowy Instytut Medyczny at Warsaw, Honorary Professor at Krasonv Research Institute of Eye Diseases, Moscow, Adjunct Professor at University of Rochester, and Professor of Ophthalmology at Shanghai Jin Tao University, China. Biography

Prof. Mohammad Javed Ali was born in Hyderabad in the Indian state Telangana to Mohammad Dawood Ali and Qaiser Yasmeen. He completed his schooling from Siva Sivani Public School, Hyderabad, and International Indian School, Dammam. He completed his basic medical education (2002) and Masters in Ophthalmology (2007) from NTR University of Health Sciences, Hyderabad. He obtained his fellowship of Royal College of General Practitioners (FRCGP), UK in 2003 and fellowship of Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Glasgow (FRCS) in 2008. This was followed by a fellowship in Orbital Surgery in 2008, followed by a second fellowship in Ophthalmic Plastic Surgery and Ocular Oncology and Aesthetic Facial Plastic Surgery in 2010. Prof. Ali joined L.V. Prasad Eye Institute soon after his fellowship in 2010 and rose to become the head of Institute of Dacryology in 2016 and Alumni Chair of Ophthalmology in 2020. He also trained in Rhinology with World leader Peter-John Wormald from Australia. Prof. Ali is a recipient of The Experienced Researcher – Senior Alexander Von Humboldt Fellowship Award. He completed his working PhD on ‘glycobiology of lacrimal drainage system’ in 2018 from University of Hyderabad. He was honored by the ‘2020 American Academy of Ophthalmology Lester T Jones Award’ for his contributions to science of Dacryology. He described three new diseases of the lacrimal system along with their classifications and clinicopathologic profiles. He was honored by “Healthcare Leadership Award 2012’ for his research and innovations in Dacryology and received the ‘2015 ASOPRS Merrill Reeh Award’ for his path-breaking work on etiopathogenesis of punctal stenosis. The second edition of his textbook “Principles and Practice of Lacrimal Surgery” [published by Springer, Singapore] is a comprehensive treatise on the subject and his other treatise ‘Atlas of Lacrimal Drainage Disorders’ [published by Springer,Singapore], is one of its kind. He holds additional positions as ‘associate editor’, ‘assistant editor’ and ‘section editor’ on editorial boards of 22 mainstream journals and a reviewer for 45+ major journals. For his contributions to science, he has been honored by ophthalmic societies in Philippines, and Poland with honorary life memberships.

Honours and awards

Mohammed Javed Ali was awarded the Shanti Swarup Bhatnagar Prize for Science and Technology in Medical Sciences in the year 2019 for his contributions to the field of Dacryology.[4] He was subsequently honoured with the prestigious JC Bose Fellowship by the Govt of India in the year 2023.
