The Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry (Turkish: Tarım ve Orman Bakanlığı) is a government ministry of the Republic of Turkey, responsible for agriculture and forestry.[2][3] Reforestation is important to combat climate change in Turkey.[4]

History

On March 6, 1924, the Ministry of Agriculture was established. On August 11, 1969, the Ministry of Forestry was established. On January 26, 1974, the Ministry of Agriculture was renamed the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock. On September 21, 1980, the two ministries were merged and became the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry. On December 14, 1983, the ministry was merged with the Ministry of Rural Affairs and Cooperatives and became the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Rural Affairs. On May 8, 2003, the Ministry of Forestry was merged with the Ministry of Environment and became the Ministry of Environment and Forestry. On July 6, 2011, the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs was renamed the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Livestock, while the Ministry of Environment and Forestry was renamed the Ministry of Forestry and Water Affairs. On July 10, 2018, the two ministries were merged and the Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry was re-established.
