Michael Fuller QPM (born 1959), also known as Mike Fuller, is a former Chief Constable of Kent Police and Chief Inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service. He was the first (and so far only) ethnic minority chief constable in the United Kingdom and the first black officer of chief constable-equivalent rank.

Fuller joined the Metropolitan Police in 1975 as a cadet aged 16 [1] and served in uniformed and CID positions throughout London. His service has included several postings at New Scotland Yard.

Whilst a detective chief inspector stationed at Shepherd's Bush and Hammersmith, he devised an innovative burglary control programme which successfully reduced burglary. This was a forerunner to the London-wide Operation Bumblebee. As DCI at Paddington he devised innovative covert techniques to successfully reduce street robbery under the Operation Eagle Eye initiative.

As a detective superintendent he worked as a specialist staff officer seconded to Her Majesty's Inspectorate of Constabulary based at the Home Office. He gave specialist advice on crime and terrorism issues and carried out inspections of police force Special Branches in relation to counter-terrorism. He also gave regular advice to the Chief HMI, Ministers and the Home Secretary.

In 1998, he helped set up the Racial and Violent Crime Task Force in response to criticism of the Metropolitan Police arising from the Stephen Lawrence Inquiry. He subsequently served as a uniformed superintendent in Lambeth and was the chief superintendent in charge of Battersea, where he was successful in reducing street crime.

In January 2000, as a commander, he took command of West Area Serious Crime Group. As well as overseeing murder investigations, he set up Operation Trident to tackle gun crime within black communities in London.

In 2001, he won the G2 ‘Man of the Year Award’ in recognition of his personal achievements and contribution to policing in London. In February 2002, he was promoted to deputy assistant commissioner. As well as heading the Metropolitan Police Drugs Directorate, he was also the Director of Intelligence, as part of a newly formed Specialist Crime Directorate.[2]

On 5 January 2004 he took up his role as Chief Constable of Kent. On 16 February 2010, it was announced that following his qualification as a Barrister, Fuller would be leaving Kent Police to start his new role as Her Majesty's Chief Inspector of the Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate. He was called to Bar at Lincoln's Inn on 26 July 2007.[3][4][5]

He retired from the Crown Prosecution Service Inspectorate in 2015 at the end of his 5-year appointment.[6] He has written a book about his experiences in policing entitled Kill the Black One First A Memoir of Hope and Justice, published in February 2019.[7]

In 2019, Fuller was awarded an honorary doctorate by Arden University for his "long-standing commitment to mentoring black officers and community support work".[8]

I am Michael Fuller, I'm a junior here at Hofstra University I am doing a BA/MA in journalism with a minor in drama and my goal career, I would hope to be able to aspire to be a reporter anchor in the journalism field. I had the great opportunity the fantastic opportunity of hosting Fall Fast with Rachel Anne so we went around and shot a video for Hofstra Media Relations and it was a blast. We pretty much covered all the events from the performances to the fireworks, from standing outside with Kathy Griffin it was just I mean it was just a blast I think people who watch that video will be able to really kind of get a feel of what Hofstra Fall Fest 2014 was like through that video so it was fantastic. From a communications stand point I've had the awesome opportunity of being involved in a lot of shows there's just a lot to do. I am the entertainment producer and reporter and writer for "Hofstra Today" which is our news magazine show that we have one every other Wednesday here on campus. I'm also the host of a show called "For Your Island" I've hosted "Directors Cut" which is a show that's kinda like inside the Actor's Studio but we tailor it to our film directors here on campus so that's a lot of fun I'm a part WRHU, which is the number one college radio station in the nation that's pretty exciting to be a part of that. I do our morning show I do news update as an anchor I host a show called Jazz cafe, one of our music shows I participate in news line, doing traffic and weather I'm also trying to start a new show and get that on the airwaves so hopefully that comes through I also work with the mascot team as a sub captain, working with our team to be able to produce good events and get our mascots out there and also work with Hofstra gospel ensemble so it's a lot to do on campus but it's a it's all good stuff. Right now as a junior I'm applying for internships in the city hopefully to be able to do that with those communications specifically communications internships but I had the amazing opportunity as a sophomore to be able to go to Orlando Florida and work with the Walt Disney Company at Walt Disney World doing an internship, it's called the "Disney College Program". You live, learn, earn so you go there you live at Walt Disney World you earn and you're able to earn money because you work for the company in a particular role in the park or in an office doing a professional internship and then you learn cuz you're able to take classes from Disney professors and be able to just learn about the company and how your academic background in school could tie in with the Walt Disney Company and it was just fantastic you know I worked in the entertainment department as a character performer I also get the chance to work with the communications department doing some things with our show called WKMK it's a news radio program for Magic Kingdom so that was awesome so right now I'm pursuing the dual degree program to graduate with my undergrad with journalism and the following year to do the same with the Graduate degree it's been it's been a real blast I mean I've had some really fantastic professors who have not only been able to guide me with the work that they give in class but who have had that experience on the outside world I mean I think it's important to be able to teach journalism but if you have that experience in working at CBS or working in print or working in radio. I applied and I came here to visit and then after that I fell in love with it and it became my number one I think the thing that really got me was that the people were just so kind they were so kind I also got the the benefits of being being able to go into the city without having to live in the city but plus, I mean just the experience the Lawrence Herbert School of Communication I mean everything we use from the news hub to the radio station is top-notch technology and to be able to have that hands-on experience that's pretty good. That's pretty good. Hofstra really has prepared me for my future in a standpoint of in terms of my academics and professional career it's given me the right mix of classes in terms of my professional career I've been able to come in contact with not only my professors but so many professionals who are still in the industry and be able to talk to them whether it's in seminars whether it's in workshops whether they just come to to just visit we've had a lot of that here and I've been able to take advantage of those opportunities in terms of internships, again, we're right next to the number one media market in the world so that has been fantastic it allowed me to go down to do the Disney College Program which has always been my dream but you know from an overall standpoint I would say it's helped me to be and to see the world in a better way you know here on campus it's a very diverse campus and it's a very welcoming campus I grew up in a very diverse environment. I grew up with African-americans, caucasians, asians and I grew up with everything and I loved that and I wanted a campus that mirrored what society had already looked like for me and I think this campus mirrors that it mirrors what the world looks like we're very very tolerant here you know we let people grow and explore and really find their way on campus and it kind of helps us and opens the door to be able to do that in the actual world
