Flambeau is a town in Price County, Wisconsin, United States. The population was 535 at the 2000 census. The unincorporated community of Lugerville is located in the town.

Geography

According to the United States Census Bureau, the town has a total area of 98.4 square miles (254.8 km2), of which, 95.8 square miles (248.1 km2) of it is land and 2.6 square miles (6.7 km2) of it (2.64%) is water.

Demographics

As of the census[2] of 2000, there were 535 people, 207 households, and 146 families residing in the town. The population density was 5.6 people per square mile (2.2/km2). There were 460 housing units at an average density of 4.8 per square mile (1.9/km2). The racial makeup of the town was 98.32% White, 0.19% Asian, 0.37% from other races, and 1.12% from two or more races. Hispanic or Latino of any race were 1.68% of the population.

There were 207 households, out of which 33.3% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 61.4% were married couples living together, 6.3% had a female householder with no husband present, and 29.0% were non-families. 26.6% of all households were made up of individuals, and 12.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.58 and the average family size was 3.14.

In the town, the population was spread out, with 28.0% under the age of 18, 5.6% from 18 to 24, 26.4% from 25 to 44, 27.9% from 45 to 64, and 12.1% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 40 years. For every 100 females, there were 109.0 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 102.6 males.

The median income for a household in the town was $41,250, and the median income for a family was $45,469. Males had a median income of $35,000 versus $20,313 for females. The per capita income for the town was $15,196. About 6.0% of families and 11.6% of the population were below the poverty line, including 8.2% of those under age 18 and 25.0% of those age 65 or over.
