This is a modern classic, winning Paris Roubaix twice, and the Tour de France. It took carbon technology up another notch, and the paint job is truly iconic. Pinarello Sword A conceptual bike that took Miguel Indurain to some of his most impressive time trial wins. This bike didn’t last long thanks to the UCI, but it has made a lasting impression. Eddy Merckx. Merckx spent most of his career riding his own branded frames, and create an iconic look with the vibrant orange paint. In reality, the early years were Colnagos and then latterly De Rosas. Colnago Master. This steel classic won a huge number of races when introduced in the early 80’s, including the Giro d'Italia and the World championships under it’s most famous rider, the Italian Beppe Saronni. The Master is now celebrating it’s 30th year of production and retains all the flair of the original. The Lotus Bike This is the bike that introduced cycling technology to the masses. Its outrageous design was lightyears ahead of its competitors in terms of aerodynamics, and remains the fastest bike on the Hour record on the track. So fast that the UCI banned it. Greg Lemond’s Bottecchia Not an iconic bike, but there’s no arguing with the impact of its handlebars. Greg Lemond was the first rider to use Aero bars in competition, single handedly changing the face of cycling with his victory in the Tour de France in 1989 in a final stage time trial. Trek OCLV Trek’s OCLV is largely responsible for ushering in carbon for the mass market. It may have just lost its 7 tour titles, but you can’t blame the bike. Giant TCR It’s not glamourous, but it has changed the landscape of road bikes. It is the second bike on this list designed by Mike Burrows. He abandoned traditional geometry for a revolutionary compact look, a design that is now almost uniform. Fausto Coppi’s Bianchi Less a classic bike, but more of a classic partnership. Coppi and Bianchi go hand in hand, and the celeste green of Bianchi is as iconic as it gets in the world of cycling. Colnago C40 Mapei This bike won the Vuelta Espana when still only a prototype and then reigned pro cycling for nearly a decade. It reached truly iconic status when painted in team Mapei colours and handing out crushing defeats in countless Monuments of cycling.
