Lespignan has a mediterranean climate (Köppen climate classification Csa). The average annual temperature in Lespignan is 15.3 °C (59.5 °F). The average annual rainfall is 620.7 mm (24.44 in) with October as the wettest month. The temperatures are highest on average in July, at around 23.8 °C (74.8 °F), and lowest in January, at around 8.0 °C (46.4 °F). The highest temperature ever recorded in Lespignan was 40.1 °C (104.2 °F) on 12 August 2003; the coldest temperature ever recorded was −9.0 °C (15.8 °F) on 22 November 1998.

History
Excavations indicate human habitation of Lespignan dating to 4000 years ago.[4] During the 13th century, Lespignan was granted to Lambert de Thury, a companion of Simon de Montfort, as a part of the Albigensian Crusade.[4] In 1379 King Charles V used his right of preemption to officially establish Lespignan as a community.[4] In 1500, the village acquired its own lord through a treaty of joint sovereignty with King Charles V.[4] The absence of a male heir led to successive changes in leadership.[4]
