National Championship team is honored in Topeka!
Transcription
The 2011 Pitt State National Championship Football team spent the day in Topeka getting recognized for their accomplishments both on the field and in the classroom. The house, the senate, as well as Governor Sam Brownback all honored the team for winning the championship and for head coach Tim Beck and the players, being on this kind of stage and getting this kind of recognition is something they’re all proud of. Tim Beck-“It’s just a neat opportunity to be able to come up and see the capital. A lot of our players have never seen the capital so, giving them a chance to see that and then be recognized by them is an awesome accomplishment.” Jake Catloth-“When we were standing there on the house floor it just kind of hit me like this is, how cool this is. I’ve never been to the capital before and how cool it is to come up with these thirty guys and our coaches and see just how they do it here in the capital.” Solomon Watkins-“Just being around the senate and everybody, the governor, that was fun. He’s a real good guy so it was just fun being around him and also he was very outgoing too so I just love being around this. This is my first time.” For President Steve Scott, he’s excited about their accomplishments on the field but understands it’s their accomplishments in the classroom that really makes this team stand out. Dr. Steve A. Scott-“You know the accumulative GPA of this group is 3.0, that’s impressive. Also have one Academic All American out of this group joins just a long tradition of really being great on the field also in the classroom.” And for Governor Sam Brownback who was actually in attendance at the championship game in Florence, Alabama cheering on the Gorillas, he understands this kind of spotlight gives not only Pittsburg State University but the entire state of Kansas some much deserved national attention. Sam Brownback-“What’s exciting about it is the National Championship, major division of football, local team, coaches from Kansas, the quarterback is from Pittsburg area and this is really local talent that has excelled at a national level.”
