[HorribleSubs] Kaiji S2 - Against All Rules - 02.ass (DOWNLOAD SUBTITLES)

The Suffering Pariah

KAIJI

Backslide Arc

A kidnapped Kaiji awakens in an underground work camp.

Worker Incentives

One-Day Outside Pass - 50k P

One-Day Suite Pass (A/C, Massage, Videos)

His only hope of escape is the one-day outside pass.

Now the foreman of his crew, Ootsuki, makes him an offer.

What do you say?

Take these, and rise from your ashes.

A demon tempts Kaiji to step into the abyss!

The dice game, chinchirorin!

The Rules of the Game

Psst... psst...

I hear you're quite the gambler, Kaiji-kun.

Rumor has it you took out one of the bigwigs,

and place hundred million yen bets without batting an eye.

It doesn't matter.

In the end, I lost and they threw me down here.

I'm just another fool.

Fool or not, you're still on another level.

The other guys here are all small-time.

They only wanna play for peanuts, which makes for a pretty boring night.

Of course, as the foreman I'm happy as long as everyone has a good time.

But to be perfectly frank, I want to raise the stakes

and play a big shot like you!

I mean, I realize you're way out of my league.

I'm just doing a little thrill-seeking.

C'mon, you can bet with this.

So you borrow 60...all you need to do is turn it into 120, no?

My ass.

Like it's that easy to double your money.

Then how about this?

For a 60,000 perica loan,

normally I'd make you pay me back 90,000

if you waited until next payday.

But if you can pay me back 60,000 by the end of the night, we'll call it even!

Even?

If he doubles his money, Kaiji can easily pay back the advance.

That would leave him with 60,000 to last the rest of the month.

See?

This is the best way to get yourself out of this predicament!

The flattery, the jovial attitude...the boss man here is smarter than he looks.

Still... he might be right.

If I try to scrape by with only 400 in change...

I'll probably end up going on another bender.

Now, if I borrow the money and win a little gambling...

But if I lose, I'm completely screwed.

Although, these guys are nothing compared to the likes of Tonegawa or the CEO.

Could I actually lose to these nobodies?

No way.

Sixty thousand, even if I pay you back tonight?

I give you my word.

Let's do it.

Now you're talking!

Officially, gambling is forbidden.

However, if the foremen accept the consequences,

they are allowed to hold two or three gambling nights per month

to let the workers blow off some steam.

Ootsuki is given permission to hold a gambling night!

Time to begin!

Isawa, Numakawa, go set everything up!

Okay!

I won't lose.

Not to these bums.

Not in a million years.

Normally, the lights go out at 9:30.

But in the rooms where the gambling nights are held,

Change

the power is left on until 11:30.

Those participating make change, pay a 300 perica ante, and take their seats.

This happens on the first and third Saturdays of every month,

with many members of the other crews joining in, as well.

However, tonight's game was set up on short notice,

so only a handful have come to play.

We've got two new faces tonight:

Kaiji-kun and Miyoshi-kun.

Either of you ever played chinchiro before?

A few times, yeah.

I-I've never played.

I'm totally new to this, so I'll apologize in advance...

Don't sweat it, the rules are simple.

In chinchiro, you roll three dice into a bowl.

Your roll determines whether you win or lose.

Everyone gets three rolls.

Simple, right?

The dealer rolls first, then the player to his right, and so on.

Players

Dealer

Between the dealer and the player, whoever has the better roll takes the pot.

In other words, it's the dealer vs. each player.

Here's the a chart of the different rolls from best to worst.

Underground Chinchirorin Hands

Multiplier: 5 times 3 times 2 times

1 times (Win what you bet)

The value of a chinchiro roll

is that of the odd die out when the other two make a pair.

If two dice come up two, and the third comes up one,

that player has rolled a one.

In this case, its a six.

As is normal, six is the best roll and one is the worst.

The player with the highest roll wins.

If all three dice are mismatched,

that roll is a bust.

In this case, the player has another two chances to roll,

but three busts in a row are an automatic loss.

He loses his bet.

However!

There are two special rolls that can come up with mismatched dice.

Four-five-six.

This roll doubles the player's earnings.

He wins twice what he wagered!

On the other hand, there's one-two-three.

A player with this roll loses double his bet.

He must pay twice his original wager.

The best roll you can get is...

Three of a kind.

Two through six and you win triple your bet.

Finally, the jackpot:

triple snake eyes wins five times the original bet.

Five times?!

Don't be so nervous!

They almost never come up.

Then there's what we call the "pisser."

If a die rolls out of the bowl, it's a bust.

Plus, even if the dealer busted earlier,

if a player rolls a pisser, the dealer wins.

Also, the player doesn't get to re-roll.

So if your first roll is a pisser, you don't get a second or third try.

Now...

Most important of all,

we have three special rules unique to our chinchiro games.

Special rules?

They're nothing major, just a few extras we thought up.

Special rule number one!

There is no dealer's advantage!

Dealer

Normally, if the dealer rolls a six, a 4-5-6, or three of a kind, he automatically wins.

He would take everyone's bets.

However, in underground chinchiro,

Player

the players are still allowed to roll the dice

no matter how strong the dealer's roll is.

If the dealer rolls a six,

and the player matches him, that round is a draw.

Draw

If he rolls three of a kind or four-five-six, he would actually win.

I know all of you are pressed for cash as it is,

so giving the dealer his usual advantages would just be unfair.

Now, if the dealer rolls a one-two-three and the player rolls a pisser, that's a draw.

The dealer doesn't have to pay.

Special rule number two!

The dealer can pass!

Pass?

Passing.

If the dealer is low on funds

or luck isn't on his side, he can pass to the next player.

Of course, you're free to pass again the next time your turn comes up.

Okay?

Yeah.

Special rule number three!

You can only deal for two rounds.

Two rounds?

In order to prevent the dealer from cleaning everyone out,

players only get two rounds as dealer.

Then the next player gets his turn.

Now, if the dealer rolls a bust or a one on his first round, his turn is over.

So the dealer can change after one round, too.

Okay.

There's a max bet of 20,000.

Twenty?

Any more than that and we'd bankrupt the dealer!

I see.

Of course, the dealer's free to accept any bet he wants,

so it's not a hard limit.

If you want to go all in, wait until I'm the dealer.

I'll take all bets,

no matter how high.

No thanks.

I'm gonna keep it low for a while.

Well, obviously.

No one goes all in at the start.

Now...

Shall we get started?

Underground chinchiro...

commences!

Place your bets, gents!

Traditionally in underground chinchiro, Ootsuki, the foreman, deals first.

Kaiji bets 100 perica.

I'll just observe for a while.

Take it slow, see how things play out...

I'll wait for my chance to strike!

Ootsuki's first roll!

He rolls a five!

Sorry, men.

What're you doing?

I'm just recording what everyone rolls.

Well knock it off, it's pointless!

Oh, come on.

It doesn't matter, everyone has their own way of enjoying the game.

But—

Go ahead.

Thank you.

Here, your turn.

Well, I'm fine with it if you are.

Now the first player, Numakawa!

One-two-three, he pays double!

Son of a...

Well that stinks!

Nice!

Finally...

Kaiji's first turn!

His first roll!

Amazingly, a four-five-six!

The rumors don't do you justice, Kaiji-kun!

Lucky for me you bet the bare minimum.

I thought a four-five-six paid double. You gave me a hundred extra.

You debuted with a four-five-six, you deserve a little more than 200!

Consider it a consolation prize, it's all yours.

Thanks.

Don't sweat it.

Your turn, Miyoshi-kun.

Right...

Consolation prize, huh?

More like a booby prize.

Figures I'd win double when I only bet 100.

I had no choice though, I need to get my fingers on the pulse of the game first.

Besides, this part of the game doesn't really count.

Chinchiro is the dealer versus the players.

Your turn as dealer is your real chance to win big.

By the same token, losing as the dealer is fatal.

That's the heart of the game, the key to winning big at chinchiro.

Just sit tight, until the wind's at your back.

However, as the game continues, Kaiji feels nothing!

He starts zoning out.

And why not?

Small bets of 100 perica are not worthy of his attention!

He simply cannot feel the flow of the game like this!

With these tiny sums, a win brings no joy, only disappointment and regret!

His frustration mounts!

At this point, a loss would make him feel better!

The situation has turned his mental state upside-down!

In other words, he feels none of the emotions he would when gambling normally.

The tension, the energy!

The presence of Lady Luck, the surrounding atmosphere, the little tells!

He is numb to all of it!

Forty minutes into the game, Kaiji finally realizes his mistake!

Serves me right for acting so smug, I'm such an idiot!

These tiny bets are just a waste of time!

Lose when you bet small and win when you go all in, right?

Duh, that's every gambler's ideal situation!

Reality never matches the ideal.

When you gamble, you gotta fight dirty.

You moron!

It's not the real thing if it doesn't hurt a little!

When he wins three in a row, his temperature rises and his face flushes,

but three losses in a row turns his blood to ice!

These are the basics of real bets!

By continuing to bet this way, he is brought to the crossroads!

When the flow changes,

he can feel the pulses of fortune lead him to the spot where he can put it all on the line!

No more playing around.

It's your turn to be the dealer.

I pass.

I still don't feel the flow.

It's too early to be the dealer.

Hey, kid, while we're young!

Lemme guess, you're passing, too?

I, um...

You haven't even rolled once.

Yes, I guess I'll give it a shot now.

Good, good, playing dealer's the only way to experience the real thrill of chinchiro.

Go for it!

Okay, I'll do it!

Everyone, it's Miyoshi's first turn as dealer.

Place your bets!

Three thousand perica?!

Why?!

You've been betting 100 perica the whole time, why now?!

Come on, why me?!

Clam it. There's no "why" in gambling!

You bet when it's time to bet, end of story!

Man...

Easy there, Miyoshi-kun.

You haven't lost yet.

You might even walk away with big money.

Yeah, maybe...

Go ahead and roll.

Here goes nothing...

Hah, a one!

Nice.

In normal chinchiro, if the dealer rolls a one, the players win automatically,

and the dealer has to pay out,

but in underground chinchiro, all players roll regardless!

Yeah!

Though, if the dealer rolls a one, they'll probably win anyway.

Of the seven players between Miyoshi and Kaiji,

all of them make stronger rolls except for Ootsuki's bust.

However, all their bets were very small.

His big challenge is the 3,000 perica bet from Kaiji!

If he beats Kaiji, he'll make back his losses and then some!

Sorry, Miyoshi.

In gambling, someone's always gotta lose,

and right now, that's you.

Kaiji's first roll!

Nothing!

You're gonna lose big,

Miyoshi!

Still nothing!

You're kidding me...you pick now to come up empty?

No... this is bullshit.

Damn it!

No way in hell!

Kaiji makes his critical third roll!

I won't lose!

I can't lose!

That's quite a feat, Kaiji-kun.

You don't see that come up often!

Kaiji's third roll is, of all things, one-two-three!

He pays double!

Woo-hoo!

The worst possible roll for a big bet!

Such an incredible comeback victory can only happen in underground chinchiro!

Kaiji loses 6,000!

Pardon me...

Now I'm angry...

Now he's angry!

Really angry...

Really angry!

So angry!

So angry!

But it's just what he needs!

This is it.

This is betting.

This is gambling!

I'd forgotten what it felt like...

The frustration, the indignation, the chill in my veins!

Next round. Place your bets!

Press.

Press!

Dive in!

Dive in and let the waves crash over you!

Kaiji awakens!

He continues to bet!

Win or lose, he will bet 3,000!

Three thousand!

Three thousand!
