Independent station

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Independent station is an independent radio or terrestrial television station which is independent in some way from broadcast networks. The definition of "independence" varies from country to country, reflecting governmental regulations, market environment and the broadcasting medium's development history.

In the United States and Canada, an independent station is a broadcast station which is not directly affiliated with any large network.

In Japan, an independent station is a terrestrial station which is not a member of any networks whose dominant stations are located in Tokyo; see Japanese Association of Independent Television Stations (JAITS) for more details. In addition, although The Open University of Japan is not a member of JAITS, it can also be classified as independent.

We're passionate about video production, and we want students who are passionate about writing, shooting, lighting, editing, graphics, motion graphics, we do it all. We have the HD cameras you need for single camera production, professional lighting and grip equipment. Multi camera HD television studio and remote flightpacks. Television and Independent Production at Conestoga truly recognizes the expanding role of video and digital film making in the economy in everyday life. Whether you want to create your own films, your own production company, freelance or take a more traditional path as TV and corporate video. We provide a full range of learning experiences to get you the skills you need. What I value most about this program is the amount of exposure that you get to different avenues within the program itself. The program has so many strengths one of them being that every year we produce a television show that actually airs on Rogers television. So our students come up with the concept they create the content, they write, they shoot, they edit they get that real world experience by producing that television show. By continuing to work in the industry we are able to make sure our students are getting the training they need so they are job ready once they leave the program. I tell my students all the time, you will not learn something you will not need to know. This program has given me the confidence and the opportunity to succeed in my future goals. Conestoga is a hidden gem in so much as the stuff of a give to you to use for your work. So I came to Conestoga, I talked to faculty to students and you know I felt that, it's a family and it was really awesome. Our main goal is to prepare our students to work in independent production and television, and we do that by getting our students out of the classroom as much as possible. Through their field placements they make great connections in the industry. A lot of our grads are working at networks like TSN, CBC, CTV and Rogers, and then others still have started their own production companies. Many are working in film and others are doing corporate video. The foundation of skills they learn in our program allows them to follow their passion wherever that may be. You know I like to think of the whole Broadcasting program as emphasis on visual storytelling, so whether it be learning how to use a camera, in a professional manner to shoot a scene and then come back and edit it all together. I think it's really important for students to understand that their instructors come out of the industry, I myself have over 25 years in the business and that's the kind of experience we hope to pass along to the students, so we know what we're talking about, and you're not going to find a set of instructors that are more excited than we are about what we do we love this stuff, and we want you to love it too.
