Medal of Honor citation

The President of the United States of America, in the name of Congress, takes pleasure in presenting the Medal of Honor to Sergeant Henry Fox, United States Army, for extraordinary heroism on 23 December 1862, while serving with Company H, 106th Illinois Infantry, in action at Jackson, Tennessee. When his command was surrounded by a greatly superior force, Sergeant Fox voluntarily left the shelter of the breastworks, crossed an open railway trestle under a concentrated fire from the enemy, made his way out and secured reinforcements for the relief of his command.[1][2]
