  • Florent Pagny - Savoir Aimer (English subs)

Transcription

Je vais vous parler du plaisir de découvrir une chanson I'm going to tell you of the pleasure of discovering a song signée Lionel Florence et Pascal Obispo by Lionel Florence and Pascal Obispo qui m'a donné une belle leçon de vie : savoir aimer that gave me a beautiful life lesson: knowing how to love Savoir sourire Knowing how to smile A une inconnue qui passe To a stranger passing by N'en garder aucune trace Not keeping any sign from it Sinon celle du plaisir Except the one of pleasure Savoir aimer Knowing how to love Sans rien attendre en retour Without waiting for anything in return Ni égard, ni grand amour Any consideration, any true love Pas même l'espoir d'être aimé Not even the hope of being loved Mais savoir donner But knowing how to give Donner sans reprendre, ne rien faire qu'apprendre To give without taking back, not doing anything else than learning Apprendre à aimer Learning how to love Aimer sans attendre, aimer à tout prendre Loving without waiting, loving at taking it all Apprendre à sourire Learning how to smile Rien que pour le geste, sans vouloir le reste Only for the gesture, without wanting the rest Et apprendre à vivre And learning how to live Et s'en aller And going away. Savoir attendre Knowing how to wait Goûter à ce plein bonheur Tasting this complete happiness Qu'on vous donne comme par erreur That's given to you as if by mistake Tant on ne l'attendait plus As we weren't waiting for it anymore Se voir y croire Seeing yourself believing in it Pour tromper la peur du vide To deceive the fear of the void Ancrée comme autant de rides Anchored like so many wrinkles Qui ternissent les mirroirs That tarnish the mirrors Mais savoir donner But knowing how to give Donner sans reprendre, ne rien faire qu'apprendre To give without taking back, not doing anything else than learning Apprendre à aimer Learning how to love Aimer sans attendre, aimer à tout prendre Loving without waiting, loving at taking it all Apprendre à sourire Learning how to smile Rien que pour le geste, sans vouloir le reste Only for the gesture, without wanting the rest Et apprendre à vivre And learning how to live Et s'en aller And going away. Savoir souffrir Knowing how to suffer En silence, sans murmure In silence, without a whisper Ni défense ni armure Nor a defence, or an armor Souffrir à vouloir mourir Suffering so much you want to die Et se relever And getting back up again Comme on renaît de ses cendres Like one rises from his ashes Avec tant d'amour à revendre With so much love to spare Qu'on tire un trait sur le passé That we put the past behind us Mais savoir donner But knowing how to give Donner sans reprendre, ne rien faire qu'apprendre To give without taking back, not doing anything else than learning Apprendre à aimer Learning how to love Aimer sans attendre, aimer à tout prendre Loving without waiting, loving at taking it all Apprendre à sourire Learning how to smile Rien que pour le geste, sans vouloir le reste Only for the gesture, without wanting the rest Et apprendre à vivre And learning how to live Et s'en aller And going away. Apprendre à rêver Learning how to dream A rêver pour deux, rien qu'en fermant les yeux To dream for two, only by closing your eyes Et savoir donner And knowing how to give Donner sans rature, ni demi-mesure Giving without a deletion, or a half-measure Apprendre à rester Learning how to stay Vouloir jusqu'au bout, rester malgré tout Wanting, till the end, to stay in spite of everything Apprendre à aimer Learning how to love Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away Et s'en aller And going away

Early years

Florent Pagny began his artistic career as an actor in popular films and television dramas. He appeared in La Balance, L'As des as, and A Captain's Honor or Fort Saganne.

In 1987, he wrote his first song titled "N'importe quoi". Pagny's first album, Merci, was released in 1990. The album's songs, mainly written by himself, began to attract controversy[vague], with the press eventually boycotting some of them. This led to a decline in sales, culminating in personal problems. His follow-up album, Réaliste, was also not as successful.[citation needed]

Jean-Jacques Goldman wrote three songs for Pagny under the pseudonym Sam Brewski, and presented to him a new staff. The album Rester vrai marked the beginning of his career as a performer only. Bienvenue chez moi, a semi-compilation released in 1995, was a smash success. Pagny also covered "Caruso", the hit originally performed by Lucio Dalla.

Pagny as a performer

He decided to go live in Patagonia in order to escape the French tax authorities and start a new life with his wife, Azucena, and their children.[citation needed] Recently, Pagny said he had enrolled his children in Miami because he didn't want them to speak Arabic while returning from school. His next album, Savoir aimer, was released in 1997. It was composed by a number of writers, including Jean-Jacques Goldman, Erick Benzi, Jacques Veneruso, Zazie and, Pascal Obispo, who also produced the album. "Savoir aimer" turned out to be an immediate success.

In 1999, Pagny released an album of cover versions of his old song, Recréation. From "Môme Julie" to "Antisocial", he mixed musical styles and dabbled with techno arrangements.

Pagny then alternated studios and cover albums (at least in part) and regularly changed his look. In 2000, he released the album Châtelet Les Halles, whose title song was produced by Calogero. He followed that with 2, an album composed of duets released in 2001. In 2003, he returned with Ailleurs land, whose first single, "Ma Liberté de penser", was composed by Pascal Obispo and Lionel Florence and deals with Pagny's problems with the French treasury. Finally, in 2004, Pagny released Baryton, an album composed of opera songs.

In 2007, Pagny released an album of covers of songs originally composed and performed by Jacques Brel entitled Pagny chante Brel.
