File:World War I- Battle of Oghratine -memory.loc.gov.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

World_War_I-_Battle_of_Oghratine_-memory.loc.gov.jpg(701 × 523 pixels, file size: 184 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description

Photo of British forces at the Oghratine oasis, near Romani. This was the jump off point for the Ottoman attack on the British fort at Romani. The Ottoman forces were soundly defeated and the British counter-attacked to the East. Given that the battle of Romani took place on August 3-5, 1916 it seems most likely that this picture is from August or perhaps September of 1916.

Original caption: "Battlefield of Oghratine, where Australian and New Zealand soldiers gained an important victory over the Turks. In the foreground is a column ready to join the long line of camel troops already advancing".
