Object history Hanau erhielt 1303 Stadtrechte. Das älteste bekannte Stadtsiegel von 1354 zeigt den Löwen und die Sparren der Herren (seit 1429 Grafen) von Hanau. 1538 kamen zum Wappen die kleinen Kreuze hinzu. Die heutige Form des Wappens folgt einem Vorschlag des Heraldikers Adolf Matthias Hildebrandt für die Stadt Hanau aus dem Jahre 1905.
