Synthetic Aperture Sonar (SAS) image of the USS G-1 collected using the KATFISH™ system as part of partnership technology demonstration between the NOAA Office of Ocean Exploration and Research and Kraken Robotics. Salvage work in the 1960s appears to have caused considerable damage to the G-1, leaving a heavily disturbed shipwreck marked by large debris.
Launched in 1911, the G-1 was decommissioned in January 1920 and towed to Narragansett Bay. In June 1921, the minesweeper USS Grebe used the G-1 as an experimental target, sinking her off Taylor Point, Rhode Island.
