Difference in rail and wheel shape for train (left) and tram (right) wheel and rail. Note: No data source for this drawing has been cited. The diagram modification in April 2006 made the relative sizes of the heavy rail and light rail (tram) flanges equal, whereas in practice they are closer to the respective sizes shown originally in the original version. Even so, other details, such as the tapers of the wheel treads, are also substantially incorrect. Since the drawing is used in so many articles, the original drawing has been reinstated as a partial solution to this situation, pending a different diagram being uploaded. |
