File:Track layout Port Pirie main yard and Mary Elie Street station 1970-1989.tif

Original file(2,266 × 1,334 pixels, file size: 11.54 MB, MIME type: image/tiff)

Summary

Description
Diagram of the main railway yard at Port Pirie after narrow-gauge track was replaced with standard-gauge track and opened in 1969. At that time, the passenger station at Mary Elie Street, shown in the diagram, took over the name "Port Pirie" from the 1902-vintage Ellen Street passenger station. Installation of the standard-gauge track was part of the project to standardise the track gauge of the w:Sydney–Perth rail corridor. All the broad-gauge track was lifted in 1990, by which time the line to Adelaide had been standardised and all non-metropolitan rail services in South Australia had ceased.
