Deutsch: Der Thron wurde für Kaiser Franz Joseph angefertigt und stand in der „Geheimen Ratsstube" im Zeremonialappartement des Leopoldinischen Traktes der Hofburg. Er wurde nur zu hohen zeremoniellen Anlässen benutzt, zum Beispiel wenn Franz Joseph eine Thronrede hielt, was er in seiner langen Regentschaft viermal tat. Bei Anlässen, die ein größeres Publikum benötigten, wie der feierlichen Eröffnung des Reichsrates 1879, wurde der Thron im Zeremoniensaal aufgestellt.

Eines der letzten Male, als dieser Thron von Franz Joseph benutzt wurde, war die feierliche Renunziation von Thronfolger Erzherzog Franz Ferdinand im Jahre 1900. Als Bedingung für Franz Josephs Einverständnis zu der nicht standesgemäßen Heirat mit Sophie Gräfin Chotek musste Franz Ferdinand im Namen seiner (noch ungeborenen) Kinder vor den Stufen des Thrones stehend auf deren Thronrechte verzichten.

1919 kam der Thron ins Hofmobiliendepot.
