File:Tectonical map of East Africa.png

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Tectonical_map_of_East_Africa.png(454 × 382 pixels, file size: 42 KB, MIME type: image/png)

This geology image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Tectonical map of East Africa.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description
Map of East Africa showing some of the historically active volcanoes(red triangles) and the Afar Triangle (shaded, center) -- a so-called triple junction (or triple point), where three plates are pulling away from one another: the Arabian Plate, and the two parts of the African Plate (the Nubian and the Somali) splitting along the East African Rift Zone. The red triangles show historically active volcanoes.
