In this encounter Sergeant Willard Glazier took part, leading the first platoon of the first battalion that crossed the Rappahannock. Matters were now assuming a warlike aspect. The Valley of the Shenandoah groaned beneath the tramp of the main army of the Confederacy, under Lee. The Federal general, Pleasonton, and the Confederate general, Stuart, were in fierce conflict among the Blue Ridge mountains. At Aldie, on the seventeenth of June, 1863, the Harris Light led the division under Kilpatrick, Glaziers squadron again being the advance guard—his place at the head of the long column which wound down the road.
