Description
Statue of Commodore Barry, Wexford John Barry was born in Tacumshane in 1745 and died in 1803. He was an officer in the continental navy in the American revolutionary war and was the first commissioned officer of the United States Navy. The statue stands on Crescent Quay. The inscription says:

"Presented to the people of Ireland by the United States of America, 1956, in recognition of Commodore Barry's outstanding contribution to the naval annals of his adopted country.

He was born in County Wexford and is buried in St Mary's churchyard, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania."
