![Jowett Eight commercial chassis with diesel engine, 1937 This Jowett is probably the smallest diesel powered vehicle ever sold in Australia for use on the road. The Jowett Eight commercial chassis was normally fitted with a 946cc flat twin petrol engine, but this example is fitted with the optional 1 litre flat twin Coventry Victor diesel engine for real smell-of-an-oily-rag fuel economy. Victor diesel engines were also used for powering electric generator sets in rural Queensland. The attached advertising board shows the vehicle was sold by Reo Motors of Grey Street, South Brisbane, distributors of the then-popular American Reo truck, and indicates the exceptional economy of operation buyers could expect. A van or utility body to meet the customer's requirements would be fitted by a local company.](http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/e/e3/StateLibQld_1_107672_Jowett_Eight_commercial_chassis_with_diesel_engine%2C_1937.jpg/659px-StateLibQld_1_107672_Jowett_Eight_commercial_chassis_with_diesel_engine%2C_1937.jpg)
