Description
St Peter's church. St Peter's church is located on an elevation just south of Brooke Road. The building dates mainly from the 14th century but the south door sheltered by the porch is framed by a magnificent Norman arch > 1056371. The interior contains several medieval survivals such as the C15 rood screen, albeit stripped of all its original colour > 1455251. Attached to it is an hour glass stand > 1455259. A C15 piscina > 1455261 with ogee hood moulds and carved faces of children can be seen in the chancel. It still has the original wooden credence shelf. A mural depicting St Christopher, opposite the south doorway, is partially covered by a 19th century wall monument. Beside the modern font underneath the tower there are the remains of a Norman font made of Purbeck marble. A brick-faced wafer oven > 1455273 can be seen beside the font in its original position in the south wall of the tower.
