File:Smith frame home 1.jpg

Description
Home of the Joseph Smith Sr. family , known as the "frame home", on the Smith Family Farm in Manchester, New York. The Smiths moved here in 1825, just about 200 yards from their previous log cabin on their property. Smith's oldest son Alvin had begun the home in 1823 shortly before his death. It remained unfinished until 1825 when the family completed the outer walls and roof and moved in with the interior largely unfinished. Some of the translation work of the Book of Mormon took place in the house and the Golden Plates were stored in the house at various times. It was returned to its 1825 appearance after extensive restoration work in 1999-2000.
