Former Premier Sir Julius Vogel is credited with writing New Zealand’s first science fiction novel, and is the namesake for the Science Fiction and Fantasy Association of New Zealand (SFFANZ) fan voted awards - dev.sffanz.sf.org.nz/sjv/sjvAwards.shtml

Published in 1889, Anno Domini 2000, or, Woman's destiny, depicts women as holding the highest positions in government, four years before New Zealand women were granted universal suffrage.
