Summary

Description

Singer Gazelle V of 1964.

Original description - We went on to a mk 2 Gazelle (1725 rather than 1600cc engine, mild re-style), which coincidentally was in the same colour scheme as this one...

According to the DVLC database (UK government database) this car was first registered August 1964 and had an engine displacement of 1592cc.
Also, the car in this picture has no wraparound rear window. Both the styling details and the date of first registration confirm my own memory (yes I am so old) that this is a Singer Gazelle Mk V (sopme folks say Series V). It is not and never has been a Singer Gazelle Mk I. I am sorry to gainsay the identity confered by the photographer who evidently remembers the car with affection. But I invite him (and anyone else not convinced) to read the English language wikipedia entry on the Singer Gazelle Mk V (Some folks say Series V).(No, it was NOT I who wrote it, as far as I remember).
Wikipedia appears not to have a picture of a Singer Gazelle Mk I (some folks say Series I), but here is a picture of the Gazelle Mk III which has approximately the same wrap around rear window as the Series I (some folks say Mk I) but slightly different residual fins.
And below is a picture of the Hillman Minx equivalent (different front from the Singer but otherwise same body) from before the change to the fins at the back. Same wrap-around back window - very expensive to produce with strong enough glass back then. Using the currently in wikipedia pictures, this is a s close to the Singer Gazelle Mk I (some folks say Series I) as it gets.
