Seal of Thomas de Brantingham (d.1394), Bishop of Exeter 1370-94. Source: Hingeston-Randolph, Rev. F.C., Register of Thomas de Brantyngham, Part I, London, 1901, frontispiece[1]. Below a large enthroned figure of a king holding a sceptre (Edward III (1327-1377) or Richard II (1377-1399)), with elaborate gothic canopy above, is a small standing figure of the Bishop, with mitre and crozier, looking upwards to the king, with two shields on either side, the right-hand one of which appears to show his personal coat of arms Sable, a fess embattled between three Catherine Wheels or. In an arched niche above the king appears to be a tiny figure of the Virgin Mary holding the infant Jesus. )
