  • Year of construction: 1959 - 1964.
  • Total number of units: 2,374; (1,600 vehicles (under licence) from Magirus-Deutz 1958 - 1967, according to Anweiler/Blank "Die Rad- u. Kettenfahrzeuge der Bundeswehr 1956 bis heute", Bechtermünz Verlag, gen. Licence edition for Weltbild Verlag, Augsburg 1998).
Note: The Brigade Reconnaissance Platoon of PzBrig 36 (Armoured Brigade 36) Bad Mergentheim (Baden-Württemberg, Germany) had 4 reconnaissance units and 2 Staff armoured personnel carriers => 10 SPz Kurz Hotchkiss reconnaissance tanks as an independent brigade unit directly subordinate to the brigade commander from October 1972 to October 1979. It was stationed at the Deutschorden barracks on the Drillberg. The brigade reconnaissance platoon was then reassigned to the Staff Company/PzBrig 36 for a further 7 years until it came under the command of the Armoured Reconnaissance Battalion 12 in Ebern (Haßberge district) in November 1986, now equipped with the 8-wheeled Luchs reconnaissance tank.
