Model of the Upper Sacramento River Steamer Red Bluff. Boats
of this type, extremely shallow draft stern wheelers called "skimmers,"
were developed in the 1850s to run between Sacramento and Red
Bluff, the final head of navigation. This Red Bluff, the third boat of
that name, was built in 1894 and ran until the early 1930s.
