MCP 1694, The holotype skull of Proterochampsa nodosa (incorrectly labelled as Protorosaurus speneri in the original source). Seen in dorsal view (viewed from above). Numbers indicate character-states scored in the data matrix. Scale bar equals 5 centimeters.

Character state scores=

  • 3-1: The skull is strongly dorsoventrally compressed with mainly dorsally facing antorbital fenestrae and orbits.
  • 4-1: The skull possesses well-developed nodular prominences on the lateral surface of maxilla, jugal, quadratojugal, squamosal and angular.
  • 5-2: The dermal sculpturing on the dorsal surface of the skull roof is in the form of prominent ridges or tubercles on frontals, parietals, and nasals.
  • 6-0: The dorsal surface of the nasals and/or frontals are not ornamented by ridges radiating from centres of growth.
  • 8-0: The dorsal surface of the temporal region of the skull is flat.
  • 11-1: The dorsal nares are directed dorsally.
  • 22-0: The snout is transversely broader than it is dorsoventrally tall (or subequal) at the level of the anterior border of the orbit.
  • 80-1: The dorsal surface of the nasals around the posterior margins of the external nares possess a depression and lack sculpturing.
