Ce dernier sous-marin à propulsion diesel de la Marine nationale, après avoir été retiré du service actif le 13 juillet 2001, a été réactivé en 2005. Après une IPER à Brest, il est prêté à la Marine malaisienne pour formation de ses équipages.
