File:Orogenic collapse models.svg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(SVG file, nominally 800 × 600 pixels, file size: 19 KB)

Summary

Description
Orogenic collapse can occur under different circumstances. If the tectonic forces which thickened the crust are still active, then it is considered a fixed-boundary collapse, where the brittle upper crust breaks down. If the tectonic forces have been released, then it is considered a free-boundary collapse, where the upper and lower crust extend together.
