Summary

Description
Operation “Cook”, was a search and destroy mission conducted in the mountains of Quang Ngai Province, RVN about 320 miles NE of Saigon. A “Purple Haze” smoke grenade is used to identify the landing zone for a UH-1D helicopter carrying the brigade commander of the 1st Brigade, 101st Airborne Division. The brigade commander was making a visit to receive a briefing from the commander of the 2nd Battalion, 502nd Infantry.
