File:Moncreiffe (or Maclachlan old) tartan.jpg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(1,056 × 1,056 pixels, file size: 996 KB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

This tartan image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Moncreiffe (or Maclachlan old) tartan.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.

Summary

Description

A representation of the Moncreiffe tartan, also known as the Maclachlan (old) tartan. In 1974 the chief of Clan Moncreiffe wrote to the chief of Clan Maclachlan for permission to use the tartan for his own clan. According to the then chief, "I took a fancy to an 18th century suit in a red and green diced tartan in the Edinburgh Castle Museum... and decided to adopt it as the Moncreiffe tartan with the red to represent the sacred tree from which we took our Gaelic Surname..."
