Summary

Description
Cartoon in the Romanian liberal gazette Ghimpele, depicting the quelling of the 1848 Wallachian Revolution by Russian troops and boyar aristocrats. The caption reads: Tribunalul din casa Moscu compus de boerĭ, condamnă pe ceĭ care aŭ luat parte la revoluțiunea de la 48; Esecutând ordinul Rusescŭ, capâtŭ felurimĭ de ordine ("The Tribunal of Moscu house [in Bucharest], formed by the boyars, sentences those who have taken part in the '48 revolution; carrying out the Russian order, they managed to obtain for themselves various orders [of chivalry]."). The boyars are shown gathered around a table which holds Arhondologia ("Register of Ranks") and the Russian-approved constitution, Regulam[entul Organic]. Trampled on the ground is the revolutionary motto, rendered as: Libertate Egalitate Fraternitate ("Liberty Equality Fraternity"; in fact, the revolutionaries had used Libertate Dreptate Frăție, "Liberty Justice Brotherhood").
