On Monday 3rd June 2002 Ashfield District Council honoured the memory of one of the district's most celebrated sons when a statue of cricket legend Harold Larwood was unveiled in Kirkby town centre. Harold Larwood's daughter, Enid Todd, and Cllr Glenis Thierry, Chairman of the Council, took part in the ceremony.
Enid Todd said "I never saw my father bowl... Of course he was finished before I was born, but I have seen newsreels of him, and pictures and yes it looks exactly right."
The nine-foot tall bronze statue was created by Nottingham based sculptor Neale Andrew ARBS and is based on archive footage and photographs of Larwood in action.
