Summary

Description

"Idealized" representation of John Harvard (there being nothing to indicate what he had actually looked like), Harvard Yard|, Harvard University, Cambridge, Massachusetts.

Urban legend has it that the toe of the statue's left foot is kept very shiny by two curious traditions: Tourists rub it for luck by day, and students urinate on it by night. However, despite the statue's being directly in front of the offices of the Dean of Harvard College, and across from the office of the President of Harvard University, the last time (as of 2013) anyone was apprehended for any kind of excretory offense on or near it was when a non-Harvard affiliated person was found defecating behind it in 2001.
