Quidam ejus libros non ipsius esse, sed Dionysii et Zopyri Colophoniorum tradunt, qui jocandi causa conscriptos velut venditori idoneo dederunt. Fuerunt autem Menippi sex: Primus qui de Lydis scripsit Xanthumque breviavit; secundus hic ipse; tertius Stratoniceus sophista ex Caria oriundus; quartus sculptor; quintus et sextus pictores, utrumque commemorat Apollodorus. Cynici autem volumina sunt tredecim, Necyia, Testamenta, Epistolae compositae ex deorum persona, ad pliysicos et mathematicos grammaticosque et Epicuri fetus et ab ipsis celebratas vigesimas, et alia.
