Description Picture of General James A. Smith taken during American Civil War. James Argyle Smith (July 1, 1831 – December 6, 1901), a United States Army officer, and a graduate of West Point. He was a Confederate brigadier general during the Civil War, worked in the educational system in Mississippi, and in the Bureau of Indian Affairs.
