File:Iranian destroyer Palang (D62) underway in 1987.jpeg

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(3,000 × 2,214 pixels, file size: 1.85 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description The Iranian Allen M. Sumner-class destroyer Palang (D 62) underway in the Indian Ocean, 1987. The Palang was the former USS Stormes (DD-780). Stormes was placed out of commission, in reserve, on 5 December 1970. She was struck from the U.S. Navy list on 16 February 1972 and sold to Iran. Renamed Palang (DDG-9), she was modified at Philadelphia Navy Yard, with the work including removal of number two 127 mm/38 gun mount and fitting of Standard surface-to-air missile launchers. Palang reportedly operated for the last time in 1994 and has since probably been hulked or scrapped.
