Description
A part of the 18th century Homann Map of Asia with Japan (Iaponia), circa 1730. The Empire of Japan was called Imperium Iaponicum (latin name). The capital city Kyoto was Meaco. Edo was Yendo, Osaka was Ozaca. The Sea of Japan was called Mare Iaponicum Occidentale (West Sea of Japan). The Pacific Ocean side of Japan was called Mare Iaponicum Orientale (East Sea of Japan).
