Deutsch: Bodensee-Dampfschiff Hohentwiel von 1913

Im Jahre 1911 hatte die Königlich Württembergische Dampfschifffahrt (KWD) einen Bestand von 6 Dampfschiffen.

In diesem Jahr bestellte die KWD bei Escher Wyss & Cie in Zürich ein Dampfschiff nach dem Typ des letzten Neubaus, des 1909 erbauten Dampfschiffes FRIEDRICHSHAFEN.

Das Schiff wurde unter der Baunummer 576 begonnen und erhielt nach dem als württembergischer Exklave im Hegau gelegenen Vulkankegel den Namen Hohentwiel.

Buchstäblich fünf Minuten vor zwölf, im Oktober 1984 wurde die Vereinigung Internationales Bodensee-Schiffahrtsmuseum gegründet.

Mit einer Handvoll Gründungsmitgliedern, ein "paar Mark" in der Tasche und einer unerschütterlichen Ausdauer begann das "Abenteuer Hohentwiel".

Besonders zweier Männer, den "geistigen Vätern" der HOHENTWIEL, ist es zu verdanken, dass der letzte Raddampfer auf dem Bodensee nicht verloren ging:

Dem Altlandrat Klaus Henninger aus Lindau und dem Projektleiter Schiffsing. Reinhard E. Kloser aus Hard in Vorarlberg.

Eigner des Dampfschiffes »Hohentwiel« ist der Verein “Internationales Bodensee-Schifffahrtsmuseum e.V.“ mit Sitz in Bregenz / Österreich. Der Betrieb des Schiffes liegt in den Händen der »Hohentwiel« Schiffahrtsgesellschaft m.b.H. mit Sitz in Hard, im Folgenden kurz HSG genannt. Ständiger Heimathafen ist ebenfalls Hard; das Schiff führt deshalb die österreichische Flagge.
