English: The Cross and Flag engagement happened here on 25. April 1606.
After the six o'clock mass on Marcus Day the Benedictine monks and the few catholics set out from Holy Cross monastery for the traditional procession to Auchsesheim. On the way there, as well as on the way back, they were harassed by the rabble. The city council did not want to allow the procession back into the city. After fights involving the pilgrims, the procession was led along the city wall via Crown Alley back to the church.
Due to disturbance of the religious peace, emperor Rudolf II. issued an Imperial ban.
