From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Original file(3,000 × 2,400 pixels, file size: 1.49 MB, MIME type: image/jpeg)

Summary

Description
Pictured are two RAF Chinook helicopters landing on HMS Queen Elizabeth for the first time.

HMS Queen Elizabeth, the newest aircraft carrier in the Royal Navy embarked two RAF chinooks in early 2018. The Chinooks (later joined by Merlin helicopters) took part in various flying serials as part of HMS Queen Elizabeth’s sea trials.

The ships island visible in the centre of the image is actually HMS Ocean berthed behind HMS Queen Elizabeth.

In addition to the joint force of Royal Air Force and Royal Navy F-35B Lightnings and their pilots, the air wing is expected to be composed of a ‘Maritime Force Protection’ package of nine anti-submarine Merlin HM2 and four or five Merlin for airborne early warning; alternatively, a ‘Littoral Manoeuvre’ package could include a mix of RAF Chinooks, Army Apaches, Merlin HC4 and Wildcat HM2.
