Summary

Media data and Non-free use rationale
Description The famous burlesque artist Gypsy Rose Lee commissioned her friend, Ralph Steiner to make this photograph as part of a series of publicity shots. On a rural road, Lee and her scantily clad "girls" posed around a Rolls Royce and Louis Vuitton luggage.
Author or
copyright owner
Ralph Steiner
Source (WP:NFCC#4) Original publication: 1944, one of a number of publicity stills circulated by Lee in that year.

Use in article (WP:NFCC#7) Ralph Steiner
Purpose of use in article (WP:NFCC#8) To illustrate some of the unique qualities of Ralph Steiner's style.
Not replaceable with
free media because
(WP:NFCC#1)
There is no such thing as a "free" version of this photo, which is a work of art. The individuals in this photograph are very old or dead, so it cannot be retaken.
Minimal use (WP:NFCC#3) I plan to use this photo only in the article on Ralph Steiner.
Respect for
commercial opportunities
(WP:NFCC#2)
This reduced-size image has only 64% of the pixels of the version published by the Getty Museum on their website. I would presume that the Getty Museum's lawyers have already carefully considered what size image could be published online without violating the rights of Ralph Steiner's heirs. By reducing the image even further from what the Getty Museum considered to be allowable, I am trying to be extra-cautious.
