DescriptionGreen-Wyatt Federal Bldg Portland OR - vines growing on sides (2018).jpg
The lowermost portion of the 18-story Edith Green – Wendell Wyatt Federal Building, in downtown Portland, Oregon, viewed from the southwest. One of the "green" features added in an extensive 2009–13 renovation and redesign, which added an entirely new exterior covering, are deciduous vines growing upwards along the building's sides. They shed their leaves every fall, allowing light into the building during colder months of the year, and during warmer months, the vines provide shade, reducing the cost of cooling the building's interior.
