Other information

This is the planetarium projector array at the Reuben H. Fleet Space Theatre in San Diego, soon after opening, late 1973 or early '74. Featured is the "starball", which tilted and rotated under computer control and filled the dome with stars - each little protrusion was a single star, each with its own lens, far more than are normally visible under best conditions on Earth. Built by Spitz Laboratories.

Other visible apparatus includes planet projectors, slide projectors, and makers of other optical effects (including a Xenon strobe).

The white-ish thing that appears to be just under the dome's edge at picture upper center is the back of the operator's console. The OMNIMAX projector lens would emerge from the door in the box at the upper right, just below the standing gentleman.

The color here is warped not only by picture aging but also by the multicolored lights they used for accents between shows - everything that appears "dark" here was pretty much all flat black.

The Space Theatre has since been renamed to the "Reuben H. Fleet Science Center" and the Spitz projector replaced with a laser-illuminated video projector system, used for both planetarium shows and digital movies.
