Die Stadt Güstrow führt die nachstehend beschreibene Flagge:

„Die Stadtflagge ist gleichmäßig längsgestreift von Gelb und Grün. In der Mitte des Flaggentuchs liegt - auf jeweils zwei Dritteln der Höhe des gelben und des grünen Streifens übergreifend - das Stadtwappen in gelb. Die Länge des Flaggentuchs verhält sich zur Höhe wie 5 zu 3.“ [1]

Die Blasonierung dieses am 8. Juni 1999 genehmigten Stadtwappens lautet:

„In Gold ein stehender, nach links gewendeter, hersehender schwarzer Stier mit zwischen die Hinterfüße genommenem Schweif vor einem nach rechts gelehnten grünen Baum, oben mit vier fünfzackigen Blättern, unten mit einem fünfzackigen und einem dreizackigen Blatt.“ [1]
