Summary

Description
Bulletin de l'Alliance Israélite Universelle⁩, 2 January 1888⁩

Original text: Fadas .

Free translation: Fadas. — When the newborn is a girl, the festivals celebrated in her honor are insignificant. One or two weeks after the birth, the fadas take place (a word corrupted from the Spanish h?, fairies). The ceremony usually takes place in the afternoon or evening. As soon as the guests are assembled, the cradle, if it is wooden, is placed on a table. The girl is lying there on cushions. The rabbi takes her in his arms, blesses all the members of the family and finally also blesses her and gives her the name she should bear. A light snack consisting of sweet liqueurs and cakes is then served. The women arrive an hour or two later and sit down to eat. You know the menu; it is the same for all feasts.
