Purpose of use

For informational purposes only, in the section of the article headed "Final years 1970–1985." F for Fake is notable as the last major film completed by Orson Welles, and it is discussed in this section. The frame illustrates the writer-director-actor in the editing room at the beginning of the film, seconds before the film breaks and Welles says he'll "patch this film together." Welles the editor is a self-described charlatan, the practitioner of fakery throughout the film; the line between truth and illusion is the subject of the film. The frame also visually represents Orson Welles during his final years, the subject of that section of the article.

Replaceable?

Not replaceable; there is no free version of this image, and The Criterion Collection DVD is the definitive release of this film.
