Original file(918 × 305 pixels, file size: 8 KB, MIME type: image/png)

Description
Map of various index regions used to measure the strength of an ENSO; plotted over a background of the +2 and +3 °C contours of the 1997-8 DJF surface temperature anomaly.
  • 1: [10S, 5S] and [90W, 80W]
  • 2: [5S, Eq] and [90W, 80W]
  • 3: [5S, 5N] and [90W, 150W]
  • 4: [5S, 5N] and [150W, 160E]
  • 3.4: [5S, 5N] and [170W, 120W]

Each index captures different properties; nino3.4 is probably most commonly used.

This meteorology image could be re-created using vector graphics as an SVG file. This has several advantages; see Commons:Media for cleanup for more information. If an SVG form of this image is available, please upload it and afterwards replace this template with {{vector version available|new image name}}.

It is recommended to name the SVG file “Enso-index-map.svg”—then the template Vector version available (or Vva) does not need the new image name parameter.
